Club Riding Tips
Here are some tips for making each ride a safe and fun
experience.
-
Know where the ride starts the day before. If in doubt, call the contact
person for directions. Plan to arrive 15 minutes before the ride
starts in order to unload your bike, pump the tires, get ready to roll. The ride leaves at the time listed.
If we KNOW you are coming, we will, as a courtesy, wait 5 minutes. Maps + sign
up sheet will
usually be left on a member’s car window.
-
Bring a helmet, filled water bottle, spare tube, lock, snack, money and a
light jacket. Weather may alter the course of a ride, particularly in March and
April. Be prepared!
-
Know your riding ability and speed. In spring, we’re all getting back in
shape and are a bit rusty so the pace might be slower. Later though, those who
consistently ride 3-4 times per week become really strong. They will take off
and ride at the head of the pack. If you are a slower rider, plan to bring a
friend to ride with you. The ride leader will most likely be in the middle. We
do usually meet during or after the ride to eat together - why ride if you can't
eat??
-
For your riding reference, please note the pace rating system below. Most
of our members will be riding a moderate pace by May. Where do you fit?
Slow paced = 8 - 10 mph
Moderate = 12 - 14 mph
Faster = 16 - 20 mph
